From the recording this and other worlds

I am intimate with life and death.
It is a part of my work as a surgeon.
I am privileged to have daily encounters with the richness of life and also with its many limits, its decay and termination.

Is this piece about decay, disorder and rebirth? The richness of life’s landscape is withering, its decay hastened by the acceleration of the climate crisis. Will there be a rebirth?

This piece is scored for trumpet, muted trumpet, tenor saxophone, bass, violin, drums and violin and cello string sections.

The opening sections are intended to be twisting and verdant.

There are blues phrases and references that wind and twist among themselves in a lush landscape; often with a migrating tonal center. There are Neo-Romantic influences in the later part.
